Post Fab Night

So the theatre COMPLETELY made my fab night fabulous. 3 Wiser Men gave me the best two hours I’ve had in a very long time. I really haven’t laughed ’til my stomach hurt since God knows when and 3 Wiser Men changed that – Nick Rabinowiz (sorry abt spelling) you’re the funniest guy alive!
New Moon, however, wasn’t exactly what I expected. Well it had been so long since I’d watched Twilight, but somehow New Moon didn’t grab me as much as Twilight did. I still enjoyed my fab night though – Viva Cape Town!

It’s a New Moon!

So how bummed was I to find out Nu Metro cinema will have a special screening of New Moon – part 2 in the Twilight saga – and I won’t be there cos I have nobody to go with!
Everyone had already made (other) plans for that night, myself included! That night I’m scheduled to watch a stand up comedy production called 3 Wiser Men. Ooh now I couldn’t really ask for a better replacement of New Moon than a theatre production which involves the famous Marc Lottering, but cmooooon it’s a special screening & there’s bound to be goody bags???!

So in my final exasperated attempt I sat down and worked out a plan with a buddy and turns out we can SO watch both shows in one night! It’ll be a rush getting from one show to the next and I’ll get home in the early morning hours, but it’s gonna be worth it.

We immediately made an online booking and within minutes of our booking, the whole show was booked out! :O wiped clean LOL.

The Lost Symbol

On a different note, I have to say that I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the new Dan Brown novel, The Lost Symbol. When I finally got it, I promise it made my day, the mere thought of it brought a smile to my face!

But now, people… Now that I read through a few chapters I struggling to even pick it up. What’s this all about?? I’m disappointed? Heck yeah! I have to reluctantly admit that I’d rather watch it as a film than read this book. I’d rather it be over in 2hours!
Howcome you might ask? Well firstly, the novel is just that – a novel. It’s hardly neutral and Dan might as well confess to be a Mason himself. I was hoping for an objective piece – considering he’s writing about important historic topics that involve “the big guys” of today, but I’m sorely disappointed. His way of writing is of course great and he keeps you on your toes, only to turn the page and find yourself going “oh yeah psshhh… shoulda known the Mason is a good samaritan”. What the heck?? Don’t get people all hyped up about being the all-revealing rebel writer when you’re actually just reinforcing public ignorance.

Anyway, that’s my 2cents on the book. Not sure if I’ll finish it or not. Maybe if someone convinces me there’s more to it than that…

Growing pains

I discovered some sad news today and I don’t quite know how to deal with it. Well, I’m dealing ok but what I mean is I don’t know the reason for it – should I even know?

It’s just tough when you put so much of your heart, dedication and time into something (or someone) and it ends up smacking you in the face… repeatedly. Surely trials are a test and patience is a virtue, but I really thought this time around I’d get it right. I figured I’m wiser now and less prone to repeat mistakes of the past, but here I am once again, injured.

I just don’t get how someone can be so completely oblivious to what they do to another – or are they really? More confusing still is how someone can’t break away from a situation when it’s clearly not beneficial to them.

All good things come to an end.

Tomorrow insha-Allah I start work. I’ve been looking forward to this job for 5 months, but I’m not ashamed to say that now the time has drawn near I am completely and utterly resentful that I HAVE TO GET UP EARLY! Yes, I am indeed very lazy.
Actually I don’t mind the work – I like the working me, all buzzed up and pro-active. It’s just the early rise & shine that I never seem to master. I’m starting to think of it as a disease and should probably draw up a petition against the discrimination of the Nocturnal?
Watch this space…

Ok so I’m in Cape Town and summer’s heading our way and even though we (South Africans) boast of Cape Town being a number one tourist destination, I – a local – cannot THINK of something spectacular to do this summer!

Instead my mind’s filled with thoughts of places to go OUTSIDE of my country. Ironic (and frustrating!) this is because when I was out of SA I missed it so much and missed the splendor of Cape Town – which has now rather unkindly left my memory. Did the oh-so-depressing winter do this to me? Will I be on a happy high again once I’ve got my bare feet in the sand and salty breeze in my hair?
I sure as heck hope so – or else I find myself on a plane again off to the big bad world out there!!

Blogging again…?

I used to be an avid blogger (on other sites). But lately I just don’t have interest. Or I’ll have an idea and by the time I get online…errr, well yeah you know. I’m hoping mobile blogging will help in this regard.

Anyway, I might move to Jordan to work and I’m not sure what to make of it. Another opportunity to explore cultures and be independent? Or to be treated as a second class human? – I’ve worked in Bahrain before.

I’m from a Western culture, but was completely saddened when I entered a Muslim culture that treated me like garbage just because I’m not from their race or creed. Weren’t these people supposed to be my brothers and sisters in faith? Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed and welcomed a new experience as I’ve mentioned before the independence etc… But I doubt I’d ever get used to being taken @ face value.

So ya, not quite sure what Jordan would be like in this regard, but there’s still lots for me to think about…

I’m not gonna mention you in my blog, but let me do a silent wish of joy to you for Eid. I hope your day isn’t filled with empty spaces like mine and that you’ll share many blessed moments with family and friends.

I’ll always think of you as the cherry on top of all my celebration cakes.

Blogging with E71

Trying to blog easier via e71

I purchased the Nokia E71 about five months ago to use as a mini laptop where I could access alll my mail accounts and do my blogging/surfing… and this is how long it’s taking me to do it. It’s not that the E71 isn’t a super fantastic phone (I still go ga-ga over it) it’s just that there aren’t many apps out there designed for the E71. And the ones that are supposed to work don’t actually work! Err Scribe comes to mind…
The email app from Nokia finally works and it works wonderfully on my Vodacom(SA) sim, but most apps are designed for Blackberry and iPhone. Kinda unfair I’d say?
Nokia E71 is the love my life (ehem) and I’ll keep looking for better apps, but right now very frustrated that I have to use it as a normal phone (i.e mobile browsing) instead of maximizing its full capacity.

Anyone else frustrated out there?
